COURSE DESCRIPTION: Here’s an opportunity to watch (and maybe try) several differ­ent aquatic therapy techniques/equipment to see if they might work for your patients. There will be a combination of techniques...Ai Chi, BackHab, Balance, Gait, Neuro, Ortho, Pediatrics, Progressions, depending on which faculty are teaching at the event you attend.

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

·         Experience several different aquatic techniques to use with a wide variety of populations

·         Identify techniques you can put to use in your own clinical environment

·         Determine the best protocols to use in groups or one-on-one

 

FACULTY: 

Laurie Denomme, B. Kinesiology, is an international presenter known for blending creative yet functional programming.  ACE, AEA, AFAA, CanFit Pro, and CALA certified Laurie shares her passion for aquatic exercise delivering quality education as an AEA Training Specialist and Co-Author/Director of Program Development for Aquatic Options Education.

 

Connie Jasinskas, MSc, is an international educator through her company: For the Love of Fit. She is the author and trainer of numerous aquatic post-rehab workshops and courses, including Aquanatal, Back Splash and Aqua Arthritis. She is currently providing aquatic rehabilitation for the Canadian Back Institute Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Centre.

 

Ruth Meyer, MEd, RKT, ATRIC, has offered aquatic therapy and kinesiotherapy services for over 20 years. She has been an Arthritis Foundation Instructor trainer for AFYAP and PACE for 11 years, a kinesiotherapist for 26 years and is also an Arthritis Foundation Self-Help Course Leader. She continues to expand her practice to include Bad Ragaz, Halliwick, Watsu®, the Burdenko Method, craniosacral and myofascial release.

 

Terri Mitchell, BA, PTA, ATRIC, has been involved with aquatic fitness since 1982. She is a Training Specialist with the Aquatic Exercise Association, a Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) specializing in aquatic therapy, and instructor of a variety of aquatic fitness classes to persons of all ages and abilities. Terri is on staff at the University of Texas at Austin and enjoys working with young adults in the water. She holds certifications from AEA, ATRI, and IAR. Terri is a Certified Personal Trainer for both land and water. She is co-author of “Applications of PNF Techniques in the Aquatic Setting” manual and co-producer of “PNF in the Pool” video. She is the 2001 recipient of ATRI’s “Dolphin Award”.

 

Ruth Sova, MS, ATRIC, an internationally known speaker, author and consultant, is the founder of six different businesses including the Aquatic Therapy & Rehab Institute, the Aquatic Exercise Association, Living Right Magazine, America’s Certification Trainers, Armchair Aerobics Inc., and the Fitness Firm. A leader in the health and wellness industry, she also draws on her vast experience as an entrepreneur to teach others what it takes to assume the risk of business and enterprise. Ruth is on the Wisconsin Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and is the author of numerous articles and eleven books on her specialties of wellness and business. She is the recipient of numerous awards including the Sevier-McCahill Disability International Foundation Award; and the John Williams, Jr. International Swimming Hall of Fame Adapted Aquatics Award. Known for her high energy and practical teaching approaches, Ruth has brought thousands of people over the years to understand the benefits of water exercise.
