COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Falls
are the primary reason for adults over 50 to seek emergency room care. This
class is an introduction to the fundamentals of balance training with specific
emphasis on the use of water techniques to enhance one’s skills. Because of the
unique principles of water this is a prime opportunity to improve one’s dynamic
balance without the risk of falling
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
1)
Define balance as it relates to gait improvement.
2)
Evaluate balance deficits in patients and provide a logical treatment
progression.
3)
Use aquatic therapy progression to enhance balance training.
4)
Recognize those patients who might not benefit from water therapy intervention.
FACULTY: Marty Biondi, PT, CSCS,
ATRIC, is co-owner of Therapeutic & Wellness Specialists and
has been involved in various aspects of aquatics for 30 years. She was recently
elected Director of Practice for the APTA Aquatic Section and is involved with
aquatic research, specifically low back pain.
