COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Child’s
Play the Therapy Way is an
action-packed interactive pool lab focused on a variety of activities to
motivate the pediatric client to achieve therapeutic goals. The participant
will move from station to station trying each of the activities, which focus on
encouraging balance, endurance, flexibility, gait, strengthening, increasing
air capacity, and posture. Each activity may focus on more than one objective.
Among the activities will be dancing with dolphins, water puppets, tic tac toe,
ring toss games, and much more. This course promises to be educational and fun;
so, leave your adult inhibitions on the poolside, jump in with a playful
attitude, and Have Fun!
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
· Explore
water play activities focusing on gait, coordination, balance, air capacity, endurance,
strength, posture, and flexibility.
· Determine
how water play activities can focus on a number of therapeutic goals.
FACULTY: Rosemary Herlong, MS, LRT/CTRS, ATRIC, has
worked as an aquatic therapist since 1992, runs her own business, Waterspice,
and works for Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, NC, as their
aquatic therapist. She was a recipient
of the 2001 ATRI Tsunami Spirit Award.
