COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Patient orientation for aquatic therapy teaches aquatic
therapists orientation techniques to ensure patients’ safety, comfort and
understanding from the deck to getting wet. Procedures, content and facility
specificity concerning orientation will be covered in this lecture. Learn and understand the importance of a thorough
patient orientation.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
1) Examine pre-orientation techniques to minimize duration of
orientation.
2) Identify safety
priorities for patient orientation.
3) Explore
orientation topics for patients.
4) Clarify the
importance of a patient orientation.
FACULTY: Lori A. Sherlock, MS, ATRIC, CSCS, is an assistant professor and the aquatic therapy
coordinator at West Virginia University in the School of Medicine, division of
Exercise Physiology. She has presented for AEA, NSCA and a variety of other
organizations on the topics of aquatics and instructs the aquatic therapy
courses at West Virginia University.
