COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Explore the benefits and progression of deep-water exercise. Basic to advanced exercises are presented with focus on alignment and practical application. Equipment selection, determining adequate flotation and common verbal cues are discussed.

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

1) Describe proper alignment and amount of floatation for a client participating in deep-water exercise.

2) Determine the four main benefits of deep-water exercise.

3) Progress clients from beginning to more advanced deep-water exercise 

4) Recognize precautions specific to deep-water exercise.

5) Cue patients to perform deep-water exercise.

 

FACULTY: Beth Scalone, PT, DPT, OCS, is a physical therapist with several years of experience in orthopedic and aquatic therapy. Since graduating from the University of Connecticut in 1991, she has belonged to the American Physical Therapy Association and has achieved certification as a clinical specialist in orthopedic physical therapy. In January 2006, she graduated from Boston University with a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. Beth has taught multiple courses related to orthopedics and aquatic therapy and is a Certified Master Instructor for the Burdenko Institute, incorporating the principles into her programming.
