COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Lumbar Stabilization for Spinal Fusions II is a continuation
of the protocols for Lumbar Stabilization for Spinal Fusions I (#2300). Discussion includes the appropriateness of
moving the patient to deep water. Horizontal exercises in preparation for
swimming are included. Core stability with added extremity movements provides
the progression to post-rehab and community programs.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
1) Examine the functional relationship between the spine and
peripheral joints and the motion changes throughout the spinal axis when
non-weight-bearing.
2) Determine the progression from shallow water to deep
water.
3) Identify appropriate patients for deep water. This
program is advanced when compared to shallow water.
4) Assist patient to recognize and maintain lumbar/pelvic
neutral unsupported in deep water.
5) Identify appropriate strengthening exercises and
progressions for the core and the upper extremities, within acceptable range of
motion while remaining in neutral position.
6) Increase total body strength while maintaining correct
alignment.
7) Relate concepts from Dr. Igor Burdenko’s Deep Water
Walker program.
