COURSE DESCRIPTION:  Every time you train, instruct or consult with any of your clients or patients, there is risk involved. As a professional in your field, you need to practice loss prevention daily by serving the needs of your clients in a safe environment. You need to protect yourself by purchasing quality insurance. This course will cover the ins and outs of liability and insurance, including HIPPA rules and regulations, injury liability, and limiting tort liability for medical malpractice.

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

1) Define legal responsibility and terminology.

2) Evaluate safety and rescue equipment.

3) Examine HIPPA rules and regulations, and case law that impact the maintenance of patient records and the processing of insurance claims.

4) Determine individual insurance needs.

5) Analyze liability coverage, malpractice, waivers, and state statutes and regulations.

6) Assess injury liability.

 

FACULTY: Brenda M. Klass PhD, MFT, DACFE, founder of Care Center Rehabilitation and Pain Management, has been involved in patient care and practice management for over 30 years. She is a licensed health care professional, a certified medical practice manager, certified in medical reimbursement, and certified in California workers compensation bill review. She founded Care Center Rehabilitation and Pain Management over 25 years ago and has taken the Center thru Medicare Certification. Prior to the Center, she was hospital based and involved with JACHO certification and establishment of the hospital billing departments relative to functional restoration. She has been heavily involved in the education of professionals, as well as education of individuals who are involved with legal and billing aspects of various therapies. She works closely with a health care attorney and stays on top of all new legislation coming down the pipeline, which could affect professionals treating injured individuals. Currently, she is involved in establishing contractual agreements with payers for functional restoration treatment and training of its staff in the coding and reimbursement of these services.

 

Patrick L. Bekeza, Esq, of The Law Offices of Patrick L. Bekeza, has been a member of the California Bar for more than 25 years. He has an extensive background in the insurance business and has received the designation of CLU and RPLU and is currently licensed in CA. He has more than 15 years experience ranging from senior vice president of marketing for a major carrier to being an independent owner and operator of insurance brokerage companies. He currently spends the majority of practice on workers compensation matters providing services to medical providers.
