COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is designed for lower extremity rehabilitation using several different aquatic techniques all designed to enhance: range of motion, strength, balance, neuromuscular re-education, functional activities, and pre-gait activities. A brief anatomical review will be provided along with discussion of hydrotherapy interventions for a broad view of patients: A.L.S., multiple sclerosis, post stroke, osteoarthritis, s/p surgery, athletes, etc. We will discuss twenty functionally based exercises in a progressive fashion: from the phase I rehabilitation of a frail elderly patient all the way to the competitive sport athlete. In the classroom, we will review some of the most up-to-date evidence-based, lower extremity techniques. We need to know what works in the water and what is best suitable for land-based intervention.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
1) Identify which lower extremity exercise is most
suitable for your patient(s).
2) Explore the most recent, evidence-based, peer and
non-peer reviewed journal articles on water therapy and discover how to find
them efficiently in FREE databases.
3) Structure
a hydrotherapy program around a patient’s needs and goals with measured
outcomes so everybody is happy: patients, therapists, MDs, and third-party
payers.
