COURSE
DESCRIPTION:
Learn new and effective modalities to
treat pain using a combination of methods to calm the responses of the
autonomic nervous system. Learn an interactive aquatic approach to enable
persons with acute and chronic pain to have a healthier connection with
themselves so they will have the tools necessary to avoid pain, lessen the
duration and increase active independence.
COURSE
OBJECTIVES:
1. Differentiate between acute pain and
chronic pain and be able to list the dysfunctional responses of each type.
2. Identify and provide an aquatic
environment conducive to relaxation and rehabilitation for the pain patient.
3. Determine the hydrophysical
properties of water and the benefits for acute and chronic pain.
4. Design and implement an acute and
chronic pain assessment specific to aquatic therapy.
5. Demonstrate safe handling and
positioning of patients in horizontal and vertical positions.
6. Explore holistic treatment and learn
three examples of the mind/body connection.
7. Examine five examples of exteroreceptive treatment techniques that can be used in
the water to inhibit the neuromuscular system.
8. Demonstrate and/or describe aquatic
techniques that reduce pressure on the nerve root.
