COURSE
DESCRIPTION: In October
2008, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services published the 2008
Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans. It is important to know the type
and strength of literature evidence for each health outcome, to improve practice
and counsel, and refer clients to appropriate physical activity.
COURSE
OBJECTIVES:
1) Examine
the outlines of the 2008 Physical Activity Guidelines.
2) Discuss strength
and type of evidence on which the guidelines are based.
3) Apply a
progression based on evidence.
4) Counsel
and refer patients/clients to appropriate physical activity.
5) Discuss research
needs.
FACULTY: Monica Tiberi,
MD, works for the Italian National Health Service of Ancona
for cardiovascular prevention and screening of athletes. She teaches fitness on
the Medical Faculty of the University of Foggia (Italy) for the Motor Science Department.
She has co-written research regarding sport in older athletes and motorcycling.
