COURSE DESCRIPTION: 

Learn the fundamentals of designing exercise programs for people with diabetes. Understand the causes, classifications and pathophysiology of diabetes along with the therapies used to control it. Exercise design includes screening procedures, potential hazards and precautions, and action to take when symptoms appear. Understand the physiological, psychological and cultural issues impacting disease management. Learn fundamental, factual and practical information for helping clients change their eating habits, along with ideas for exercise program design.

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES: 

1)         Examine exercise programs for people with diabetes.

2)         Determine the role of good metabolic control on reducing the risk of developing complications.

3)         Establish guidelines for prescribing exercise in diabetic individuals.

4)         Prepare the fitness professional to design and instruct exercise programs for people with diabetes.

 

FACULTY:  Eduardo Netto, MS, is the Fitness Director of the A Body Tech Health Club, the largest health club chain in Brazil. He has a masterŐs degree in human motricity and is currently pursuing his PhD in medical studies. He is an international presenter and well-respected fitness professional and consultant in Brazil.  He has published books, DVDs and a CD-ROM on fitness programs.

 

FACULTY: Sally Brindle, BS, ATRIC, is the Aquatic Program Director at the Indianapolis JCC. She earned her ATRI Certification in 2005 and has been a certified AEA Fitness Professional since 2003. She has been a National Trainer for the Arthritis Foundation and an Arthritis Foundation Instructor. Sally is also an MS instructor and working toward being an MS trainer. She earned her Ai Chi Certification in 2007 and is also WSI Certified and is a WSI Trainer.
