COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course is intended for practitioners who need a pediatric aquatic foundation as a prerequisite for the Pediatric Specialty Certificate Program or simply to understand the application of aquatics to assist children with physical and/or neurological development. The information and hands-on instruction will focus on pediatric indications, precautions, and contra indications for aquatic therapy treatment. We will also show how to optimize your aquatic environment for safety, learning and accessibility for children with disabilities. Motor development and the aquatic motor development model will be discussed and practiced along with hydrodynamic applications. Pediatric handling techniques will be modified for learning motor control and are essential to the water adjustment process. Participants will learn aquatic skills progressions and adaptive techniques utilizing fun interactive teaching methods.
