COURSE
DESCRIPTION: Define types
of pain and review common pain conditions that escalate and become chronic.
Techniques such as water massage, energy meridian exercise, relaxation and the
body scan meditation will be taught. Techniques will take advantage of the
therapeutic aquatic environment that supports the client's release and
reduction of chronic pain. Natural coping strategies, modification in
reactionary behaviors, improved body awareness and the willingness to embrace a
wellness plan will be practiced and discussed.
COURSE
OBJECTIVES:
1) Define the
various types of pain.
2) Examine
and discuss natural strategies such as biofeedback, the body scan meditation,
completing the grieving process, energy management, and relaxation techniques
that are currently being used by chronic pain centers.
3) Practice
specific exercises and massage treatments in the pool that are effective
chronic pain treatments.
FACULTY: Sheralee Beebe, BA, MES, is a Post-Rehab Aquatic Specialist, who has
been practicing since 1991. She has developed three full-service aquatic rehab
programs in Canada and California. Sheralee is the
co-author of the ATRI Rheumatology Certification, and is a member of the ATRI
Standards and Certification Committees.
