COURSE DESCRIPTION: 

Experience the powerful effects gained from combining Yoga postures with resistance training in static and dynamic movement sequences. Review the integrated relationship of muscles important for hip and back function and learn practical core training ideas using isotonic and isometric muscle work. The use of buoyant equipment will further enhance oneีs balance, strength and functional performance.

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

1.   Determine what the muscles need to be strengthened to improve hip and back function.

2.   Experience how static and dynamic movement sequences will enhance balance and trunk stability. 

3.   Explore exercises that combine Yoga postures with resistance training appropriate for low back pain and hip replacement.

4.   Describe how to incorporate isometric and isotonic muscle work to improve strength.

5.   Demonstrate how to use buoyant equipment to improve muscular endurance and core function.

 

FACULTY: Laurie Denomme, B. Kinesiology, is the assistant director of operations for the Aquatic Exercise Association (AEA), an AEA training specialist, a Bender Method master trainer, and a certified fitness instructor and personal trainer. She is the director of program development for Aquatic Options, an organization dedicated to providing innovative aquatic exercise options that bridge the gap between physical therapy and aquatic fitness programming. She co-authored a book on special populations and post-rehab called The Aquatic After Care Training Manual and travels internationally to share her unique and personally developed aquatic training methods.
