COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The Halliwick Concept is a representation of the entire continuum of aquatic rehabilitation and habilitation. Created by an engineer, who used principles of hydrostatics and hydrodynamics to enable children with disabilities to move freely in water. Halliwick can be used for all populations, from the severely disabled to the fit and functional, from adult to child, from water-fearful to water-confident. Halliwick teaches a Ten-Point Program that can be adapted by a range of disciplines to suit their professional methodologies and clients. Halliwick techniques learned in this session will be useful for one-to-one passive therapy, group active work, and therapeutic treatment.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

1)    Increase awareness of how Halliwick may be used for discipline-specific goals and how to produce an integrated approach to supporting client progression.

2)    Consider practical applications of the Ten-Point Program for both individual disciplines and multidisciplinary practices.

3)    Discuss strategies for further inter-professional learning and cooperation focusing on the Halliwick Concept.

4)    Provide examples of education in the Halliwick Concept for participantsŐ clients and their helpers, aids, instructors, and therapists.

5)    Experience Halliwick at a variety of depths in the pool.
