DESCRIPTION: Falls are the primary reason for adults over 50 to seek
emergency room care. The unique properties of water provide an ideal medium to
address balance issues. This class will provide information regarding the multifactorial issues of balance, how water allows for fine tuning of oneีs balance skills, and specific exercise
progressions to accommodate motor learning.
COURSE
OBJECTIVES:
1) Determine
the parameters and skills, which assist with balance acquisition.
2) Evaluate
balance deficits in patients and provide a logical treatment progression.
3) Explore
why aquatic therapy progressions can enhance balance.
4) Provide a
logical motor program to enhance balance and the refinement of oneีs current
motor program.
5) Recognize
those patients who might not benefit from water therapy intervention.
