COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The Orthopedic Specialty Certificate Program is an aquatic protocol for the specific treatment of common orthopedic ailments. We will view the supporting research and current trends in orthopedic rehab for joints, muscles and bone. Aquatic therapy protocols will be discussed and implemented for acute, sub-acute and chronic orthopedic conditions. The course will focus on orthopedic aquatic assessment, joint stability, tissue mobilization, facilitation and restoration of movement. To achieve these goals we will look at the why, when and how to apply, select and modify therapy techniques for evidence-based orthopedic rehab.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

1)    Implement orthopedic-specific aquatic therapy treatments that complement land-based therapies.

2)    Determine the hydrodynamic justification for selected orthopedic techniques.

3)    Apply the treatment protocols for the ankle, knee, hip, spine and shoulder.
