COURSE DESCRIPTION: We will discuss soft tissue injuries associated with common orthopedic diagnoses. Learn degrees of joint stability and when and how to begin aquatic mobilization to assist recovery. Explore basic muscle testing assessments and follow muscle chain choreography. The instruction is a progressive hands-on approach both on land and in the pool. Learn skills to observe, feel, and mobilize restricted tissues, using aquatic techniques that promote increased circulation of blood and fluids, thus increasing tissue elasticity and joint mobility.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

1)    Experience hands-on instruction in a warm water pool to learn and practice direct and indirect myofascial techniques specifically adapted for use in aquatic therapy.

2)    Study the effects of using immersion to assist in diagnoses and trace the pathways of myofascial disturbances in the body.

3)    Recognize weakened joint stabilizers and how to improve muscle balance through the practice of aquatic myofascial techniques.

4)    Demonstrate knowledge and the use of, turbulence, vibration, aquatic elongation and stretch techniques, buoyancy-assisted and resisted mobilizations.

5)    Perform hands-on aquatic myofascial mobilizations for tissues involved with FSS, TKR, ACL, THR and ankle sprains.
