COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The majority of the population will experience back pain or
injury at some point in life. This workshop will address common causes of back
pain and the benefits of vertical aquatic post-rehabilitation exercise. Current
research on back pain and core training will be used to create an effective
core-training program for the water. Practitioners engaged in back
rehabilitation will discover useful techniques to help
clients create functional core strength and decrease or prevent back pain. Treatment
of spinal cord injury is outside the scope of this workshop.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
1) Describe
common causes of back pain.
2) Consider
the qualities of vertical aquatic training that make it ideal for spinal
rehabilitation and post-rehabilitation.
3) Examine
vertical aquatic techniques to build alignment awareness, core stability,
functional gait, core endurance and strength.
4) Determine
pain management strategies, potential limitations/contraindications for this
population.
5) Experience
vertical aquatic training techniques for the core at various depths of
immersion.
