Intermediate / Pre-Symposium Half-Day Workshop – Combine with 3308-Aquatic Therapy for the Trapezium Muscle (see above) for Full-Day Upper Extremity Package

Sanibel, FL / Monday, June 28, 2010 – 7:30-11:30 am – 4.0 credit hours equal to 4.0 CECs/.4 CEUs

Pool: 7:30-9:30 am

Faculty: Shinzo Fujimaki, CMT; and Minakshi, CMT

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Explore the art of Japanese healing, Shiatsu, Ai Chi and gentle yoga in the water and learn how to apply that knowledge to shoulder pain. Self-healing Shiatsu yoga is based on meridians (energy lines), major acupuncture points and five elements from Shiatsu, as well as gentle stretches with breath from yoga. Shiatsu and yoga techniques are integrated, creating energetic meditative movement in warm water. This healing movement frees inner energy to circulate throughout the entire body and mind, helping to heal common illnesses and create better health. Through gentle touch on a painful shoulder point, we open up the underlying energy of that point with our hands. Shiatsu is simply a step beyond that natural urge to touch pain.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

1)    Identify the concept of Oriental healing, yin and yang theory, principles of Shiatsu and yoga, and their application to shoulder pain.

2)    Locate and examine the general flow of all meridians affecting the shoulder.

3)    Identify and palpate the key acupuncture points and explain the shoulder benefits.

4)    Demonstrate the oriental approach to energy flow by using proper Ai Chi breath control, Shiatsu, yoga, and Aikido techniques.

FACULTY: Shinzo Fujimaki, CMT, has been teaching massage, both on land and in the water, along with Japanese Shiatsu for 25 years. As an Aikido artist, marathon runner, and yoga practitioner, he integrated the discipline, training, and philosophy of Aikido and yoga with the practice of Shiatsu to create a full, rich healing experience.
