COURSE DESCRIPTION: 

This course is a prerequisite for all other courses. If you have taken this course at a past ATRI conference or if you have taken Course #1200 - Intro to Aquatic Therapy and Rehab, you can skip this offering. The physiological effects of immersion and the principles of hydrodynamics will be covered. Direct applications of these principles for orthopedic, neurologic, and chronic conditions will be discussed.

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

1) Understand the effects of waterÕs properties on the cardio-respiratory, endocrine, and musculoskeletal systems.

2)  Recognize those conditions for which water therapy might be contraindicated due to negative effects of immersion.

3)  Apply oneÕs knowledge of the systems of the body together with the properties of water to provide an effective treatment program for various physical conditions.

 

FACULTY: Connie Jasinskas, MSc, is an international educator through her company: For the Love of Fit.  She is the author and trainer of numerous aquatic post-rehab workshops and courses, including Aquanatal, Back Splash and Aqua Arthritis.  She is currently providing aquatic rehabilitation for the Canadian Back Institute Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Centre.
