COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The Pediatric Specialty Certificate Program will discuss the
aquatic developmental motor learning of a child. This course will focus on
unique treatment methods to address sensory processing, motor skill development
and developmental progressions. The practitioner will learn specific aquatic
techniques that are instrumental in addressing issues involving balance, motor
coordination, spasticity, social integration, behavior and self-esteem. This
group will discuss and apply aquatic techniques and treatments to be used with
a child through dynamic pool labs. The practitioner will learn ways to
integrate parental involvement as well as target treatment goals by teaching
with songs, games, and fun.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:

motor learning skills.
2) Apply aquatic techniques to address
muscle tone for functional movement.
3) Incorporate primitive reflexes in the aquatic environment.
4) Coordinate breath control with reflexes and motor development.
5) Identify health conditions where precautions or special consideration should be taken for pediatric aquatic therapy.
6) Apply aquatic techniques used with pediatrics.
7) Examine how to select songs, games and fun stunts to apply to specific treatment goals.
