COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The Pediatric Specialty Certificate Program will discuss the aquatic developmental motor learning of a child. This course will focus on unique treatment methods to address sensory processing, motor skill development and developmental progressions. The practitioner will learn specific aquatic techniques that are instrumental in addressing issues involving balance, motor coordination, spasticity, social integration, behavior and self-esteem. This group will discuss and apply aquatic techniques and treatments to be used with a child through dynamic pool labs. The practitioner will learn ways to integrate parental involvement as well as target treatment goals by teaching with songs, games, and fun. 

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

1)  Determine how to progress aquatic motor learning skills.

2)  Apply aquatic techniques to address muscle tone for functional movement.

3)  Incorporate primitive reflexes in the aquatic environment.

4)  Coordinate breath control with reflexes and motor development.

5) Identify health conditions where precautions or special consideration should be taken for pediatric aquatic therapy.

6)  Apply aquatic techniques used with pediatrics.

7)  Examine how to select songs, games and fun stunts to apply to specific treatment goals.

 

FACULTY: Julia M. Fettig, CTRS, CMT, ATRIC, is the founder/owner of Therapeutic Aquatics, Inc. and aquatictherapyinfo.com, specializing in consulting, information and rehabilitation. She is a continuing education presenter for the Aquatic Therapy & Rehab Institute, Inc. and Motivations, Inc. The author and publisher of the "Bad Ragaz Ring Method Visual Instructional Manual and Video," she also co-produced the ÒPNF in The PoolÓ DVD. She is the recipient of the 2002 ATRI Tsunami Spirit Award for her innovation, creativity and implementation of new ideas. Both national and international audiences have received her workshops enthusiastically.
