COURSE DESCRIPTION: Explore Pilates-based exercises for pain and postural imbalances for both water and land. Learn the Pilates approach to correcting postural imbalances, and protocols for pain, functional strengthening, and mobilization. Practical labs include Pilates Mat exercises for mobilization and strength, and Peyow Aqua Pilates beginner-intermediate level program. This program includes postural alignment exercises, and modifications to be used in therapeutic classes, one-on-one therapy; and with special populations, including those experiencing arthritis, and other chronic conditions.
1) Identify four Pilates exerises for lower extremity pain, two on land, and two in the water.
2) Describe and demonstrate two aquatic Pilates exercises for Kyphosis.
3) Determine the ideal cervical alignment with torso flexion.
FACULTY: Anne Pringle Burnell, AS, created the Peyow® Aqua Pilates program and the Stronger Seniors® Workout Program. She is an education provider and certified by: AEA, ACE, AFAA and Stott Pilates™. She teaches at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Peninsula Spa, University of Illinois Chicago, and has been a presenter at conferences including the National Council on Aging/ASA 2010 Joint Conference.
