COURSE DESCRIPTION: Aqua Pilates exercises which strengthen the core stabilizers are applied for corrective functional movement. Learn Pilates protocols using essential mat exercises for core strength. Aquatic Pilates progressions and principles are applied together for muscle re-education to prioritize eccentric and dynamic core recruitment exercises.
1) Discuss three Aqua Pilates exercises you would use for core recruitment and fall prevention.
2) Name two positions in the pool to integrate core stabilization into function.
3) Describe the mat progression for hip rolls.
4) Explain the eccentric abdominal work of the turn-the-crank exercise.
FACULTY: Anne Pringle Burnell, ATRIC, created the programs: Peyow® Aqua Pilates and Stronger Seniors®. She is an education provider and holds the following certifications: CAFS, Ai Chi, AEA, Arthritis Foundation, ACE, AFAA/NASM, and AquaStretch™. She is an Instructor Trainer for Stott Pilates/Merrithew Health & Fitness. She teaches at the Galter Life Center/Swedish Covenant Hospital, Peninsula Chicago, University of Illinois-Chicago, Core Evolution.
