1302 – Trunk-Centered Sit-to-Stand Skills

Beginner / 1-hour Land Workshop

This workshop will address the biomechanical advantages to a functional sit-to-stand and stand-to-sit skill.  This skill will be practiced with the emphasis on the neuromuscular efficiency of the lower extremity while maintaining core/trunk stability. Basic muscle imbalances will be addressed with flexibility for efficient neuromuscular recruitment. Eccentric muscular control will be emphasized with trunk stability. 



1)   Address the basic roadblocks to an efficient sit-to-stand skill.

2)   Utilize corrective flexibility to lengthen the high-tone muscles.

3)   Trunk-centered stabilization techniques will be practiced with integrating movement.

4)   Practice reducing forces while decelerating to a seated position.


FACULTY: Maryanne Haggerty, MS, has been educating aquatic and land therapists and exercise professionals, individuals, and groups on safe and effective exercise for 29 years. As a faculty member and presenter for ATRI, NASM, Town Sports International, AEA, and AFAA, she has certified thousands of professionals and provided continuing education. Promoting exercise for all abilities, Maryanne has presented televised exercise segments, and developed corporate wellness sites and seminars, and six-month home exercise program progressions. She developed several Aquavee Pool Pilates Plus Exercise Programs for all levels of rehabilitation to fitness. As a Corrective Exercise Specialist and Functional Movement Specialist she has a basic philosophy to make exercise safe, effective, and fun.
