COURSE DESCRIPTION: Here’s an opportunity to watch (and maybe try) several different aquatic therapy techniques to see if they might work for your patients. Included in this free demo: Lumbar Stabilization, Gait/Balance, Ai Chi Ne, BackHab, ROM Solutions, Endurance Improvements, Posture, and Safety Techniques.

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

·         Experience several different aquatic techniques to use with a wide variety of populations

·         Identify techniques you can put to use in your own clinical environment

·         Determine the best protocols to use in groups or one-on-one

 

FACULTY: 

Marty Biondi, PT, CSCS, ATRIC, is co-owner of Therapeutic & Wellness Specialists and has been involved in various aspects of aquatics for 29 years. She was recently elected Director of Practice for the APTA Aquatic Section and is involved with aquatic research, specifically low back pain.

 

Laurie Denomme, B. Kinesiology, is a certified AEA, ACE, AFAA, CALA, and CanFit PRO Fitness Instructor & Personal Trainer who presents internationally on all areas of aquatic fitness. Laurie is internationally active in aquatics as a conference presenter and working on special projects for AEA. She blends her strength in management and leadership, with her creative yet functional presentation skill. Laurie is an AEA Training Specialist and Co-Author/Director of Program Development for Aquatic Options educational programs & resources. 

 

Beth Scalone, PT, DPT, OCS, is an APTA certified clinical specialist in orthopedic physical therapy and a certified Master Instructor for the Burdenko Institute. She has taught a variety of aquatic therapy continuing education courses. As a Certified Pilates instructor, she works with both rehabilitation and fitness clients.

 

Ruth Sova, MS, ATRIC, an internationally known speaker, author and consultant, is the founder of six different businesses including the Aquatic Therapy & Rehab Institute, the Aquatic Exercise Association, Living Right Magazine, America’s Certification Trainers, Armchair Aerobics Inc., and the Fitness Firm. A leader in the health and wellness industry, she also draws on her vast experience as an entrepreneur to teach others what it takes to assume the risk of business and enterprise. Ruth is on the Wisconsin Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and is the author of numerous articles and eleven books on her specialties of wellness and business. She is the recipient of numerous awards including the Sevier-McCahill Disability International Foundation Award; and the John Williams, Jr. International Swimming Hall of Fame Adapted Aquatics Award. Known for her high energy and practical teaching approaches, Ruth has brought thousands of people over the years to understand the benefits of water exercise.

 

Mary O. Wykle, PhD, ATRIC, is an assistant professor of physical education at North Virginia Community College and founder of MW Associates. Mary offers training in aquatics and health management. She co-developed the ATRI Risk Awareness and Safety Training course, is co-authoring Standards for Therapy Pools, and Standards for Aquatic Therapy Practitioners, and is the co-chair of the ATRI Core Curriculum Committee.
