COURSE DESCRIPTION: Aquatic Pilates exercises in a vertical position strengthen core stabilizers for improved function. Pilates principles and progressions are applied together for muscle re-education to prioritize eccentric and dynamic core recruitment exercises.
1) Discuss three Aqua Pilates exercises you would use for core recruitment and fall prevention.
2) Identify two positions in the pool to integrate core stabilization into function.
3) Describe the difference between Pilates mat hip roll vs. hip lift.
4) Explain the eccentric and concentric abdominal work in the Turn-the-Crank exercise.
FACULTY:Anne Pringle Burnell, ATRIC, created the Peyow® Aqua Pilates program and the Stronger Seniors® Workout Program. She is an education provider and certified by: AEA, ACE, AFAA and Stott Pilates™. She teaches at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Peninsula Spa, University of Illinois Chicago, and has been a presenter at conferences including the National Council on Aging/ASA 2010 Joint Conference.
